About North Island Ventures

North Island Ventures (NIV) is a venture capital firm founded in 2020 and based in New York City. It was co-founded by Travis Scher, James Hutchins, and Glenn Hutchins — the latter being a co-founder of the private equity firm Silver Lake and a former director at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. NIV's investment thesis centers on crypto as an enabling technology, and what the firm calls "Finance 3.0" — the shift from legacy financial infrastructure toward decentralized, blockchain-based systems. Beyond venture investments, the firm conducts proprietary research and also manages public crypto strategies alongside its venture portfolio. The firm invests across a wide range of crypto and Web3 verticals, including DeFi, stablecoins, blockchain infrastructure, DePIN, AI, gaming, and tokenization. Portfolio companies include Ether.fi, Midas, Geodnet, Nous Research, Figure (IPO'd), Dapper Labs, Immunefi, Cedar, Takenos, and Hexagate (acquired), among others.
