The Personal Mobility Platform

First to market with a Personal Mobility Platform

The battery revolution is transforming the world of personal mobility.  E-Scooters and e-Bikes have led the way, but a gold mine awaits for whoever can create a personal e-vehicle that caters for the 30 to 50 year market.

The aim of this project is to develop a Personal Mobility Platform for the 30-to-50-year market.

To attract this cohort, visual and design considerations are that it needs to look safe, move calmly and critically look like something a ‘not-so-young’ person would use. Cost is also a significant consideration along with being multi-use, ‘foldable’, easy to use and not too heavy.

Our PMP initial design focuses on one specific application of the PMP, that of shopping.  While shopping doesn't sound very sexy, consider that while 85% of households live within 1km of where they shop, virtually everyone drives to the shop, even for a few things.  Shopping habits have also changed. Fast self-service checkouts has resulted in people now shopping three to five times per week for far fewer items.  Imagine if, rather than driving the car you could nip over to the shop on a PMP which then 'transforms' into a shopping trolley (i.e. it’s not left outside) and then 'transforms' back for the return trip home.

Once a user has the base platform, other attachments transform it to enable a round of golf, to carry a baby or take a child to school; it enables picnics in the park, bush walking, rides along the beach and multiple other applications only limited by the user’s imagination.

This aged group is clearly a massive market; in fact, it is THE market. In five years PMPs will be ubiquitous. If we can design something that appeals to even 1% of this market, we will sell 200k units in Australia alone!
